About Ana Samways
An Auckland, New Zealand westie, I live in the beautiful Waitakere ranges, in the bush, near the black sand beaches, where there are no bars and you can be held up by an armed offender call out on the school run.
You may know me from such columns that ran on the backpage of the NZHerald for 21 years, until all that goodwill and engagement was replaced by more sport.
I worked as a producer on TV3’s The Project (a cracking bunch of people) until I met my end with WB Discovery’s sinking lid policy.
Now I’ve emigrated to Substack, where life is better and I’m mistress of my own domain.
I grew up in the south, schooled in Balclutha and skipped thru a degree in Drama form Otago University. I wrote a black comedy at 19 about my parent dysfuctional marraige. Won an Young Achievers Award for scriptwriting the year they decided to include less fencers and opera singers.
I am between the ages of 43 and 53 depending on what CV you are reading.
I have boy children, girl dogs and recently, a husband. I did not take his surname because that shit is old-school and I am a feminist. And his surname is Jellyman.
